I'm an avid reader and also have do quite a bit of traveling. The Sony E-Book is a good alternative to taking several books on every trip. It can hold over 100 books so I'm never without something to read. It was hard to give up having the actual book in my hands, but this is so much more environmentally friendly and portable.
#1 on mine now is to "Continue reading" the book I have been reading for the past couple of days. My laptop accompanies me for that.It does come with a case already attached, which if I had heeded the one comment, I would not have bought the combo, only the PRS-505. The side of the screen has buttons from 1 - 0 which simplify your actions. I turned it on the moment I received it and was amazed at the clarity of the screen. I wanted a device to read books on, in the event I'm deployed again or sent TDY. You can flip the orientation from Portrait to Landscape, change the Date and Time, and play a Slideshow. There is no internet feature, but I bought it to read books not browse the web. The pictures are crisp.
I did purchase a AC power adapter in order to keep my USB ports free.Dragging and dropping books are easy and I was surprised at how fast they showed up on the Reader. Also has a bookmark feature to place several bookmarks at a time within the same or different books. The Sony PRS-505 is great. It comes with a USB cable to charge the PRS-505 using the computer/laptop. So it picks up right where you left off. Also allows you to store music and pictures, although the screen is in black and white. The buttons to flip the pages are a little small on the right and it has page flip buttons on the lower left. It has 2 slots on the top, next to the power button, for a Pro Duo Memory card and an SD Memory card.So far I'm loving it and my 12 year-old is very, very jealous and wants one too.
I got his e-book for Christmas and I love it. It is light, holds hundreds of books, the battery last me a week long while I read every day up to 2 hours; I plug it in to recharge overnight and is ready to go the next day. It takes some time getting used to it, and especially I missed "holding the book and flipping the pages" feeling, but after couple short weeks I ended up loving my e-book. I take this e-book everywhere I go. I can have music and pictures on it but I like to use it primarily for reading. Very nice toys to have.
It is thin, relatively light weight and the size of the whole gadget is very close to the size of the readable area (which is good ).The screen is of a good quality, the display is very clear. And I love thefact that there are only a few buttons.The librarian software that is installed on the PC is a bit clumsy, but I don't think I will ever need to use it. In Windows, The SONY Reader appears as a "removable storage" device, and you can simply drag&drop electronic books from the PC to the SONY reader.
If you love to read and sometimes you have problems to find the exact book you're looking for or you think books are quite expensive, this gadget is for you.Is flat, light, very good looking, with a perfect size screen and that electronic ink is perfect for reading without hurting your eyes.PDF files appeare with very little letter so it's better to just use DOC or TXT formats. I don't think this is a problem because is very easy to convert those files to any other format.This eBook cames with a very nice and hard case so I don't think you really need to buy the combo.
